Desperate Michael Strahan holds up sign during Fox NFL Sunday as Giants icon is told – ‘it’s rough being a New York fan’

NEW YORK GIANTS legend Michael Strahan hilariously held up a sign during FOX’s NFL coverage on Sunday.

The football Hall of Famer-turned-broadcaster gave a clear message to the ownership of his beloved Giants.

The sign said he missed Saquon Barkley, who the Giants let leave last year[/caption]

That message centred on electric running back Saquon Barkley, with the presenter comically holding up a cardboard sign reading: “I still miss Saquon.”

The Giants picked Saquon up second overall in the 2018 draft, with the now 28-year-old going on to spend six seasons with the team before being released.

He was snapped up by the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2024 season, and went on to have one of the most dominant campaigns for a running back in history.

He led the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory, winning offensive player of the year and snapping the NFL record for rushing yards in a full season.

It is clear to see then why Strahan poked fun at his own desperation regarding his departure.

He joked with his co-hosts: “I’m taking donations. Bring him back.”

Colleague Curt Menefee chimed in saying: “It’s rough being a New York fan right now Michael.

To which he responded: “It is. It is Curt.”

He eventually threw the sign out of shot on the Fox NFL Sunday broadcast[/caption]

He declared through a faux emotional rasp: “I don’t need a sign, get the sign out of here man.”

All the while, his fellow hosts chuckled along with the bit.

Strahan has more of an emotional connection to the Giants than most.

He spent the entirety of his 15-year career in the NFL with the organization.

The 53-year-old former defensive end was drafted in 1993 by the NFC East side.

He went on to have an illustrious career on the East Coast, including winning a Super Bowl and making seven Pro Bowl appearances.

He also set the record for single-season sacks in 2001, helping him enter the Hall of Fame in 2014.

The Giants could use his expertise now as they slump to a 1-3 start to the season.

They lost consecutive games against the Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs before securing their first win of the season on Sunday against a Los Angeles Chargers team that had gone unbeaten up to that point.

It has been a turbulent start to the campaign off the field as well.

Owner John Mara, 70, announced his cancer diagnosis on Monday, but confirmed that he felt “strong and optimistic” as he headed into treatment.

They will have a chance to rally and build on their victory this weekend as they take on a winless New Orleans Saints team on the road.
