Developing Now: Tracking severe weather in KELOLAND

Take a look at some of the storm reports into the Storm Center as of 8am. SDSU mesonet report of 76mph winds near Lowry at 7:10am.

We will continue to track several storms in the region today. Here are a few of the LIVE Cam shots from this morning.

You can see some of the very strong winds north of Pierre during the 6am hour on this video below.

The ongoing storms have increased during the early morning. The radar loop below clearly shows several thunderstorm areas across the region as of 7am.

Today’s severe weather risk map includes much of eastern KELOLAND. In fact, portions of western SD have been added to the outlook as well.

The best chance of severe weather and strong storms will roll into Sioux Falls late this afternoon. Here’s a look at the latest hourly planner.

The good news is portions of central KELOLAND are getting rain today in the driest areas. You can see that yellow and orange pocket between Winner and Pierre. Thunderstorms are impacting that region this morning.

The bottom line today, continue to monitor the weather. Additional storms are expected this afternoon as the main cold front advances into southeastern KELOLAND. Locally strong to severe storms will occur along and ahead of this front. We think the best chance of severe weather near Sioux Falls will be after 4pm.
