THE Department of Motor Vehicles has forced a driver to ditch her vanity licence as text could be linked to a terrorist organisation.
The woman from Northern California is fighting to keep a licence with her name written on it despite it “breaking state law“.

Isis Wharton has received a letter from DMV last Friday claiming that her personalised licence plate “IAMISIS” is violating state rules.
The DMV argues that the plate could be linked to the terrorist group with the same name, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
The group has been designated a terrorist organisation by the United Nations, the United States and many other nations.
However, Wharton has owned the plate since 2022 without any issues and even paid to renew it every year.
Wharton told ABC: “I was confused since I’ve had it for so long, and I was honestly super hurt.
“I just did my registration a couple months ago, and they didn’t say anything then either.”
Her plate could be protected by the First Amendment as personal expression, according to some legal experts.
Wharton says she intends to fight to retain her registration plate as it is.
