Dog the Bounty Hunter’s son fired by police after horror high speed crash that ‘killed a teenager & sent 6 to hospital’

DOG the Bounty Hunter’s cop son has been fired after being involved in a horror high speed smash which killed a teenager.

Officer Garry Chapman‘s career has been “terminated” in Alabama following the deadly crash which also put six people in hospital.

Priceville Police Chief Jerry Holmes confirmed his axing to CBS-affiliated WHNT.

It followed a deadly crash in Hartselle, Alabama, on September 6 which killed 17-year-old Tristan Hollis.

He was a Hartselle High School student, and was not driving the car being chased, reported AL.com.

Priceville Mayor Sam Heflin said Garry had initially been placed on administrative leave before the termination decision was handed down.

But Garry’s attorney, Scott Morro, said his client was appealing his firing – and will have his say at a special hearing on October 13.

Officials at the city council will hear him defend his beloved job.

Morro said, “Garry Chapman is an excellent police officer who has made several cases for the City of Priceville.

“And he is their top police officer even though he has only been there a short period of time.”

He also maintained that, “The facts and the law are on Garry Chapman’s side.”

Garry Chapman is the youngest son of Duane Chapman, also known as Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Dog, born Duane Lee Chapman, is an American television personality star, bounty hunter, and former bail bondsman.

Dog tracked down 6,000 criminals in his job as a bondsman.

In 2019, Garry’s beloved mom Beth Chapman – Dog’s fifth wife – passed away from throat and lung cancer.

TRIBUTE TO DAD

According to a TMZ report on September 11, Garry started his career in law enforcement by working as a corrections officer.

In a personal Q&A posted on Priceville Police Department’s Facebook page in April, Garry paid homage to the area.

He said, “I love the support this community has for the Police Department.”

When asked why he became a cop, Garry paid tribute to his famous father.

He replied, “My Dad. Even though he wasn’t in law enforcement, he always lived by the motto: ‘Leave people better than you found them.’

“Watching how he treated others and carried himself with integrity made a huge impact on me.

“I knew I wanted to follow a path where I could make that same kind of difference. Law enforcement became that path for me.”

HUMBLE TEEN

However, his career hit pause after the horrific crash which claimed the life of the Alabama high school student.

One bus driver remembered Tristan Hollis on social media as “kind and humble.”

The high speed chase ended in a fatal two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 36 and U.S. 31 in Hartselle.

Priceville Police told WHNT that the officer tried to stop a suspect for moving violations/suspicion of driving under the influence.

TMZ reported last month that driver of one vehicle reportedly entered an intersection in Hartselle, where it collided with another vehicle.

Garry was then placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

But this has snowballed into his subsequent firing.

He loves being a police officer and should be given commendations for his work instead of being made a scapegoat.

Scott Morro, attorney for Garry Chapman

TMZ – citing Garry’s attorney – reported today that Dog‘s son has a clean disciplinary record when it comes to police pursuits.

Morro alleged the chased suspect was impaired by fentanyl.

The attorney added, “Officer Chapman is one of the most articulate and knowledgeable officers I have ever represented.

“He loves being a police officer and should be given commendations for his work instead of being made a scapegoat.”

The U.S. Sun has contacted Priceville police for comment.

Priceville’s mayor wrote on Facebook today, “For reasons important to the protection of employee due process and fairness, it is the policy of the City of Priceville not to comment on pending personnel matters.

“I can say, however, that the city and its police department is committed to serve the citizens of the City of Priceville by enforcing the law aggressively and fairly, but in a manner that is consistent with applicable law and the Department’s Policies and Procedures.”

Priceville in Morgan County, has a population of 3,854, and is known as the “Crossroads of North Alabama.”

Who is Garry Chapman?

He’s the youngest pup of Dog the Bounty Hunter…

Garry Lee Chapman is the youngest son of Duane Chapman or “Dog” and Beth Chapman.

Garry – born on February 7, 2001, in Hawaii – stayed out of the public eye and did not appear on his family’s TV series Dog the Bounty Hunter.

In 2019, Garry’s mother Beth Chapman passed away from throat and lung cancer.

He spent three-and-a-half years in law enforcement as a corrections officer before becoming a cop at the Priceville Police Department, Alabama.

Garry said in April 2025, “I love the support this community has for the Police Department.”

When asked what made him want to become a cop, he replied, “My Dad.

“Even though he wasn’t in law enforcement, he always lived by the motto: ‘Leave people better than you found them.’

“Watching how he treated others and carried himself with integrity made a huge impact on me.

“I knew I wanted to follow a path where I could make that same kind of difference. Law enforcement became that path for me.”

Outside of work, his interests are, “spending time with my family, church and going to the gym focusing on my physical health.”

A “fun fact” Garry shared about himself was that he was awarded the Outstanding Student in Criminal Justice award while training to become a cop.
