A social media post on Facebook has revealed a handful of price increases happening at Dollar Tree.
For example, a 1.25L bottle of Coca-Cola has gone up from $1.25 to $1.75.
Sunglasses have gone up from $1.25 to 1.50, bagged ice is now $2, not $1.25, and reading glasses are $1.50 up from $1.25.
The final two products highlighted on the post are bagged chips, which have increased from $1.25 to $2.50 and helium balloons, which are now $1.50 instead of $1.25.
The caption of the post simply posed the question to shoppers: “What are your thoughts?
“Will you continue to shop at Dollar Tree or will you go elsewhere?”
In the comments, many pointed out that Dollar General‘s $1 aisle is looking “better and better”.
One person said: “Them same drinks two dollars at dollar general y’all gon live.”
Another wrote: “As much as I don’t like the price increase, some items are still cheaper there than anywhere else.
“Plus, I have found dollar tree products at DG for only $1.
“But, if they continue down this path of increasing prices, I fear their business will suffer.
“I already shop there less and am more conscious about what I put in my cart.”
And a third noted: “I haven’t shopped DT in quite some time, Dollar General is my homie!!”
DEFENDING DOLLAR TREE
But in the comments, there were some who defended the price increases at Dollar Tree.
Dollar Tree pricing

Despite the name of the store, Dollar Tree recently added items that cost more than $1 to its inventory.
Most items at the store cost no more than $1.25, but items in the Dollar Tree Plus section cost up to $5.
Dollar Tree introduced Plus aisles to 100 locations in 2019 as part of an effort to diversify its products.
By 2022, Dollar Tree had added the items to over 1,500 locations.
“We believe testing additional price points above $1 for Dollar Tree products will enable us over time to expand our assortments, introduce new products and meet more of our customers’ everyday needs,” president and CEO Michael Witynski said in a statement.
“Our brand promise is that customers get great value for what they spend at Dollar Tree. We will continue to be fiercely protective of that promise, regardless of the price point.”
One comment read: “I don’t get it, it’s not like a $1.25 item went up to $5.00 or even a $5.00 item is going up to $10.00.
“It’s still a dollar store, just not a $1.00 store.
“You still will get good deals, for things you just want to pay less for.
“If you see the items cheaper at some other store, buy it there.”
And someone else jumped to Dollar Tree‘s defence: “Still continue to shop DT.
“They’re just doing what other retailers have been doing since 2020 and no one has complained about as much as they have with DT raising their prices.”
The US Sun has reached out to Dollar Tree for comment on the price rises., but did not hear back right away.
