PRESIDENT Donald Trump wants the Washington Commanders to change their name again.
Washington DC’s football team has gone through three names since 2020.

The Commanders were previously known as the Redskins until 2020[/caption]
Currently known as the Washington Commanders, the team was known as the Washington Football Team from 2020 to 2022.
Before then, the team were controversially known as the Redskins from 1933 to 2020.
However, former owner Dan Snyder was pressured into changing the name of the franchise after pressure from sponsors like Nike and Amazon came.
Companies threatened to boycott the team if they didn’t change the team name.
Trump was in office when Washington first changed its name.
Now, he has made it known that he never would have changed it in the first place.
“Well, you want me to make a controversial statement? I would,” Trump said when asked if the Commanders should change their name back to the Redskins.
“I wouldn’t have changed the name. It doesn’t have the same ring to me.
“Winning can make everything sound good. So if they win, all of the sudden, the Commanders sounds good.
“But I wouldn’t have changed the name.”
The Commanders are set to bring a new stadium to Washington DC, and in April Trump was asked if a new stadium would bring a name change.
“Now Washington, the Redskins, perhaps that’s a little different, a little different,” he said.
“I think it’s a superior name to what they have right now.”
Trump also said that “we’re about to bring common sense back to this country.”

The Commanders won three Super Bowls before their name change, but there have only been three years of play since they swapped titles.
However, the current roster has brought plenty of hope, with an AFC Championship berth coming in 2024.
With Jayden Daniels at the helm, the Commanders won 12 games in the 2024 season and have reason to believe they can be even better in 2025.
Daniels is heading into his sophomore season after winning Offensive Rookie of the Year, and has a long career ahead of him.
