DONALD Trump has lashed out at Tom Hanks after a event planning to honor the movie star was scrapped.
The president also urged bosses at the Academy Awards to ditch supposedly woke actors.
Hanks was supposed to receive the Sylvanus Thayer Award on September 25.
But, leaders of the West Point alumni group changed course.
The award ceremony will now not be taking place, as reported by the Washington Post.
Mark Bieger, a former US Army colonel, explained why the decision to scrap the awards ceremony had been axed.
“This decision allows the Academy to continue its focus on its core mission of preparing cadets to lead, fight, and win as officers in the world’s most lethal force, the United States Army,” he said in a memo, seen by the outlet.
Trump welcomed the move in a Truth Social on Monday, saying: “We don’t need destructive, WOKE recipients getting our cherished American Awards!!!”
Trump then suggested bosses at the Academy Awards should take note and review their “practices.”
He claimed the ratings for shows such as The Oscars would “surge” if execs heeded his advice.
Hanks will still receive the Sylvanus Thayer gong – even though the ceremony has been canceled.
Trump’s dig at Hanks comes months after the Forrest Gump star was slammed by MAGA supporters over a Saturday Night Live skit.
Hanks was heavily criticized over how he portrayed a white Trump supporter with a rural accent.
The Hollywood star was taking part in a sketch known as Black Jeopardy!
The skit saw Hanks refuse to shake the hand of the game show’s host, who was being portrayed by Kenan Thompson.
But, the way the sketch was broadcast left Trump supporters enraged.
