And she received a warm welcome as she tuned in from the capital.

That was thanks to NFL Sunday presenter Charissa Thompson, who was delighted to speak to her colleague after a long time away in the off season.

She said to Andrews as she introduced her back to the show, “Calm down, we can. Erin Andrews joins us from the nation’s capital.

“My favourite segment. This is where it’s really going to go off the rails.

“The producer Jerry can just throw it out the rundown because we are going to go over our time because I can never get enough time with you.

“We’re back, football’s back and I’m so excited.”

Andrews provided analysis on the battle of the quarter-backs as Jayden Daniels took on Russell Wilson.

The rookie got the better of the veteran as Daniels threw for 233 yards and a touchdown.

Wilson failed to score a touchdown for his side despite telling Andrews that he has overcome his injury issues and now “feels like he is 25”.

Andrews, 47, has gone through health issues of her own, having previously been diagnosed with cancer.

Andrews was diagnosed with cervical cancer in the fall of 2016.

She required emergency surgery but was declared cancer free later that year.

The sports reporter also suffered from fertility issues for more than a decade.

She called it “10 years of hell” before finally welcoming a son via surrogacy in 2023.

Ahead of another NFL season, she told the Check for Cancer movement, “Be proactive about your health.

“It’s so important. That’s something that I try to stress with my family and something that I try to deal with my own health.

“I hate going to the oncologist. I love my oncologist.

“I hate going for my checkups to make sure I’m okay and everything, but it’s just so important.

“It’s an early lesson I’m going to be teaching my son as well.”

Andrews continued, “When I was dealing with cancer, even now when I’m dealing with my infertility, my surrogacy journey, I talk to people.

“I talk to my family and use them as a resource.

“I talk to doctors. I just think it’s so important to get as much information as possible than to do it all by yourself.”
