AN ESPN star and Stephen A. Smith rival has set his goal on being Troy Aikman’s heir on Monday Night Football.
The Dallas Cowboys legend Aikman has worked alongside icon play-by-play man Joe Buck on ESPN’s MNF since 2022.

Aikman and Buck have been broadcasting together since 2002 and have been a duo since 2005.
However, broadcaster positions don’t last forever, and one NFL analyst believes he can be Aikman’s successor.
Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky recently revealed his goal for the future of his football media career.
Orlovsky recently signed a new four-year contract to be ESPN’s NFL analyst, as he appears on hit weekday programs NFL Live, First Take, SportsCenter, and others.
But the 41-year-old also worked on the Monday Night Football B-team, where he calls a few games each season.
Orlovsky shared that he wants more broadcaster assignments during a recent appearance on the Awful Announcing Podcast.
“I want more… Yes, they know where I stand both now, and in the future,” Orlovsky said.
“… I want to call the most important game, or one of the most important games weekly in football.”
However, ESPN is under a media rights deal that ends in 2033 and won’t be adding games.
But Orlovsky believes that he can be Aikman’s successor.
“Of course, it’s a crazy goal, but I could see myself, yeah,” Orlovsky said.
“Absolute. And that is said with the utmost respect and reverence and admiration.
“But absolutely. That’s a crazy goal for sure, but that is one of them.”
Orlovsky has experience in the media world as he’s worked with ESPN since 2018.

But he’s still only 41 years old.
Aikman, meanwhile, is 51 and has stated his goal of continuing to call MNF games past his current deal, which ends in 2027.
Nonetheless, Orlovsky will continue to call football games.
He stars on First Take, where he tends to get into arguments with the fiery personality Smith.
