SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission went high into the air above downtown Sioux Falls Wednesday.
Before launching his “Build America” agenda for the FCC, Brendan Carr stopped by the KELOLAND Media Group studio. Along with touring the station, Carr went hundreds of feet in the air.
Carr climbed the KELOLAND-TV tower outside our station, which is just over 200 feet.
“I can’t think of a better way to kick off the day than with a 200 foot tower climb with Brandon and his crew,” Carr posted on X at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
In a news release, Carr said he’s holding his first policy agenda speech in Sioux Falls because that’s where he “first put on a hardhat and harness to climb a tower.”
Carr, who had served as a FCC commissioner since 2017, was appointed FCC chairman by President Donald Trump in January.
“I think the broadcast industry across this country is invaluable,” Carr said in an interview in the KELOLAND studio. “There is just nothing that beats live and local. When you come here to a station like this with a history, it has a connection with the community. It’s trusted. I think we need more of that.”
Carr said the FCC’s job should be to get rid of any regulations that are holding back local broadcast TV stations.
