Fears for Mike Tomlin and Pittsburgh Steelers over ‘disruptive’ new $118 million star who ‘hurt the culture’ of ex-team

THERE are worries for Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers over their new $118 million star defender.

The Steelers made a blockbuster trade last week.

Pittsburgh acquired Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith and All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a late-round 2027 draft pick.

But one of the Steelers’ new additions had a muddy relationship with the Dolphins towards the end of his tenure in Miami.

The Sun-Sentinel reported that the Dolphins were annoyed with the veteran Ramsey, who became disruptive with the team and hurt the franchise’s culture.

Ramsey was regularly late to practices and would go against former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and head coach Mike McDaniel.

The 30-year-old’s attitude reportedly spread to other players and caused a number of issues last season.

Ramsey’s problems played a massive role in the team dealing him to Pittsburgh.

The trade helped Miami bring back Fitzpatrick, whom the organization drafted in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

And the trade rids the Dolphins of the massive contract they had given to the seven-time Pro Bowler last year.

Ramsey is set to make $26.6 million this year, as Pittsburgh will take up the bulk of it, and Miami will pay $3 million.

His reported attitude issues came last season when Miami went 8-9.

The Dolphins missed the playoffs for the first time in McDaniel’s three-year tenure.

Miami hasn’t won a playoff game since 2000.

As for the Steelers, they’ll hope for Ramsey to be fully on board with a team that’ll be led by future first-ballot Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.

Ramsey will be paired with the younger cornerback Joey Porter Jr. in the secondary.

The nine-year veteran Ramsey is coming off a season in which he recorded just two interceptions, his lowest total since 2020.

Pittsburgh went 10-7 last season and lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card round.

They haven’t won a playoff game since 2017.

The Steelers have also added star wide receiver DK Metcalf in the offseason.
