Final hours for McDonald’s fans to score sweet treat before massive menu change means favorite is gone forever

MCDONALD’s fans have just hours before a sweet treat will be taken off the menu forever.

The fast food chain is officially dropping the collaboration they have had for three years.

Much to the dismay of fans, the burger joint will no longer offer Krispy Kreme doughnuts at its thousands of US locations.

The collaboration between the two companies saw Krispy Kreme doughnuts sold at 2,400 McDonald’s restaurants across the US.

But the partnership will be coming to an end on July 2.

So if you want to enjoy a McDonald’s burger followed by a Krispy Kreme treat then you better head to stores today for one last hurrah.

While the iconic partnership was a successful venture for the fast food giant and its franchisees, that was not the case for Krispy Kreme, according to Alyssa Buetikofer, McDonald’s USA’s chief marketing and customer experience officer.

“We were excited and pleased to partner with Krispy Kreme. We had strong collaboration with Krispy Kreme and they delivered a great, high-quality product for us,” she said on Tuesday.

“While the partnership met our expectations for McDonald’s and Owner/Operators, this needed to be a profitable business model for Krispy Kreme as well.”

he move to drop the treats from the McDonald’s menu comes on the heels of the two companies’ decision to pause their partnership last month following a sales slowdown.

The doughnut giant revealed it would “reassess” its rollout with McDonald’s, sharing that it would not launch its treats at any additional McDonald’s spots in the second quarter.

“I remain confident in the long-term national opportunity, but we need to work together with them to identify levers to improve sales,” said Krispy Kreme CEO Josh Charlesworth.

Just The Dough Of Us

McDonald’s has been teaming up with Krispy Kreme since 2022 to sell its doughnuts in select locations.

The two companies first tested the idea in 160 McDonald’s locations in Kentucky, with the success pushing their decision to team up permanently.

Their official partnership was set in March 2024, when Krispy Kreme and McDonald’s announced that a nationwide rollout would be complete by the end of 2026.

Before the collaboration was axed, foodies could expect to see three Krispy Kreme doughnut flavors at McDonald’s:

  • Original Glazed
  • Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles
  • Chocolate Iced Kreme Filled

Food Fury

Foodies were not shocked when Krispy Kreme initially paused its partnership with McDonald’s in May, with many expressing their complaints about the pair’s collaboration online.

“What made Krispy Kreme doughnuts so good is they were made fresh in the store and you could get them coming off the conveyor belt hot,” said one Redditor.

“Getting day-old doughnuts for around the same price as a hot sausage McMuffin with cheese is crazy.”

Other fast food fans agreed, calling the pricing of the Krispy Kreme doughnuts sold in McDonald’s “atrocious,” arguing that the dessert giant would be seeing better sales had it matched the pricing at its own locations.

Customers also complained that the partnership was a “weird pairing,” noting that it would likely work better at a chain like Starbucks.

“I just don’t want a donut when I go to McDonald’s. Rather have them separate at different times,” commented one user.

As the pair works to end their partnership in just days, Krispy Kreme is planning to offer fans a free original glazed doughnut next week – see the exact steps to follow to claim one.

Plus, the doughnut chain previously followed Starbucks and Chick-fil-A with new additions.
