Two foreign men were found dead in eerily similar circumstances just two hours apart, and just two floors apart, in a Pattaya condo, sparking a full-blown police probe into the bizarre double tragedy.
Pattaya police were left scratching their heads yesterday, July 17, after the bodies of a Swedish man and an Australian man were discovered in separate rooms of the same condominium in South Pattaya, with no immediate signs of foul play, but plenty of unanswered questions.
The first grim find came at 2pm, when Police Lieutenant Colonel Saijai Khamjulla, an investigator at Pattaya City Police Station, was called to a room on the fifth floor of the condo, located behind the Tukcom shopping centre. The building’s name is being withheld due to the ongoing investigation.
Inside, officers discovered the naked body of a 38 year old Swedish national near the bathtub, with water still overflowing. He had a one-inch cut on his forehead and right eyebrow, and blood was seen in the bathwater. There were no signs of a struggle, but CCTV footage reportedly shows a short-haired woman leaving the room before the body was found.
Just two hours later, at 4pm, Lt. Col. Saijai received another call, this time to a room on the seventh floor of the same building.
There, officers found the lifeless body of a 54 year old Australian man, lying face-down. A broken glass was spotted by his left elbow and several bottles of medication were scattered nearby. Once again, no signs of a struggle were found.
The building caretaker, 27 year old Thunkchanok Prajit, told police she was alerted by a friend of the Aussie man, who hadn’t heard from him in two days. When she opened the door, she was hit by a foul odour and immediately contacted the police.
Both bodies were sent to a local hospital for examination and preservation while police await contact from next of kin. Names are being withheld until relatives and respective embassies have been informed, Pattaya News reported.
Investigators say there’s currently no evidence to suggest the deaths are linked but given the timing, location, and unusual circumstances, they’re keeping an open mind.
“All possibilities are being considered,” said a police spokesperson. “We’re reviewing CCTV footage and gathering forensic evidence to determine what happened. Nothing is being ruled out at this stage.”
