Ford issues another massive recall as 100,000 popular fourth-gen pickups flagged for life-threatening safety issue

FORD customers have officially been notified of yet another major recall, adding to the over 100 already instituted throughout this year.

And the latest manufacturing fault is one of the most potentially deadly yet.

Most recalls are a result of missed design flaws or general missteps in the manufacturing process[/caption]

100,900 Ranger pickups from the 2024 through 2026 model years have a defect which affects the vehicles’ side curtain airbags.

As of this writing, owners have been notified of the recall via letters which added that the planned fix is not yet available.

Owners can expect to begin receiving remedy notification letters, instructing them to make service appointments, in December 2025 per National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents.

“Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition,” also per these documents.

Upon being activated in a crash, the airbags could tear as a result of contact with an “inner reinforcement flange” on the interior B-pillar.

In practice, this effectively makes the airbags useless by nature of the gases trapped inside being able to escape before cushioning passengers in the accident.

Ford explained in the letters its intention to fix the issue by using protective shields to provide a layer of protection between the flanges and airbags.

The manufacturer also specified that the repair will be provided by Ford or Lincoln dealerships free of charge.

Both left- and right-side airbags are believed to be affected by the issue.

The affected vehicles were manufactured between December 9, 2022 and July 29, 2025.

Ford didn’t immediately return The U.S. Sun’s request for comment.

The 2025 Ranger and several other models were recalled in August for an electronic brake booster defect which could cause it to shut off during normal operation until the next ignition cycle.

Earlier this month, the 2024 Ranger and other models recalled for a rearview camera issue which saw over 1.5 million vehicles display frozen or black screens when reversing.

Roughly 1,400 Ford Rangers were recalled for a missing or improperly torqued nut which could result in a loss of steering control via a front upper control arm coming loose.

Top Ford recalls in 2025

FORD has issued a historic number of recalls so far this year.

Here’s a look at some of the most significant safety announcements that affected millions of the brand’s vehicles.

  • In August, 355,000 models, including the F-550 SC, F-450 SD, F-350 SD, F-250 SD, and the 2025 F-150, were recalled over issues with the instrument safety panel
  • Just days prior, over 103,000 F-150s were recalled over an axle fault
  • In July, Ford announced that 700,000 vehicles were at risk of having a fuel leak problem
  • In the same month, over 850,000 Ford cars were found to potentially have a fuel pump defect that could put them at risk of a crash
  • Also in July, 200,000 Ford cars were found to potentially have a software glitch affecting rearview cameras
  • In June, four new Ford recalls were announced over several issues, including brake malfunctions
  • In May, Ford recalled 273,000 cars over a potentially dangerous brake issue
  • In April, 148,000 Ford cars were recalled over fears of a fire risk
  • And in March, the brand recalled one model over gearbox problems

So far, 2025 has seen over 100 recalls for Ford-manufactured vehicles, which includes the Lincoln fleet.

These recalls ranged in severity from useful but unnecessary features being defective to larger issues which prevented safe operation of the vehicle.

One of the most concerning dealt with over 350,000 F-series pickup truck models which had faulty instrument clusters that would display nothing on startup, effectively making safe operation impossible.

FORD’S FUTURE ISN’T FORGONE

While difficult to believe the iconic American automotive manufacturer could bounce back from its horrific year, there are some bright spots for the brand.

Despite its myriad recalls, it still took home the top spot in customer loyalty for the first half of 2025 according to S&P Global Mobility.

CEO Jim Farley’s appearance on an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has also resonated with fans.

Arguably the most significant victory the brand has had yet comes from leaked plans to revive the Ranchero platform as an EV, which gearheads have responded to with enthusiastic support.
