Ford issues another recall as 1.5 million popular models found to have a dangerous ‘distortion’ bug

CAR giant Ford has urgently recalled more than 1.5 million vehicles over safety fears related to cameras – and it’s not the first time.

Drivers could be left with a blank screen when using the rearview cameras, increasing the risk of collision.

Ford is recalling a total of 1.5 million vehicles across the US in response to the issue.

In addition to the US recall, 122,000 vehicles are being recalled in Canada.

A further 300,000 vehicles in other markets are also being recalled.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) spoke about the potential risk created by the camera failure.

According to the regulator, rearview cameras can display inverted, distorted, or blank images.

The recall affects certain 2015-2019 models, including Lincoln MKC, Lincoln Navigator, Mustang, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, Expedition, Edge, Transit, Transit Connect, Econoline and Ranger vehicles

Dealers will inspect and replace vehicle cameras, the regulator said.

Latest set-back

This is the latest camera recall to hit the car giant.

Earlier this year, Ford was forced to recall 200,000 cars off the road due to a dangerous glitch tied to backup cameras.

The issue also affected Lincoln vehicles.

Just last month, Ford was forced to urgently recall more than 300,000 vehicles over braking issues.

Stopping distance was potentially extended on these motors as a result of the fault, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford recalled a total of 312,120 vehicles across the US in response to the issue.

At the time, the NHTSA spoke about the potential risk created by the braking failure.

Risk of crash

According to the safety authority, a loss of power brake assist while driving can extend stopping distance and increase the risk of a crash.

The recall affects certain 2025 Lincoln Navigator, F-150, Expedition, Bronco, and Ranger vehicles.

The latest update comes just weeks after Ford recalled a million “defective” cars due to a software glitch.

Ford also recently recalled 690,000 motors over potential risks relating to a “fuel leak”.

And Ford EVs in the UK have been affected by huge recall after fears a fault will leave passengers “trapped”.
