Cole Strange has joined the Dolphins as they prepare to face the Patriots on Sunday.
He arrives as a replacement for James Daniels, 27, who has been moved to the injured reserves.
This means that Daniels will not be eligible to play for the Dolphins until at least their Week 6 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Daniels suffered a pectoral injury during the Dolphins’ season-opening defeat against the Indianapolis Colts.
The Dolphins suffered a humiliating 33-8 loss as Colts quarterback Daniel Jones made history.
Jones led the Colts as they became the first NFL team in 48 years to score on every drive in a game.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, 27, has responded to criticism of his performance as the Dolphins look to bounce back.
It is hoped that Strange can make a significant impact at the Dolphins as they face his former team.
He could be expected to swap sides and fill in on the right-hand side in Daniels’ place.
The 26-year-old Kion Smith was tasked with filling this role against the Colts.
Despite this, Strange may be seen as a stronger replacement for the injured star.
Strange played 30 games during his three-year stint in Foxborough, Massachusetts, mostly at left guard.
His first-round arrival in New England came as a shock as he had been projected as a potential pick for later in the Draft.
He started every game of his rookie season as the Patriots went 8-9.

He was quickly snapped up by the Cleveland Browns, who placed him in their practice squad.
After less than two weeks with the Browns, Strange has made his way to Miami.
Strange’s potential debut against his former side is a must-win for both sides as they look to build momentum as the season begins.
Both sides lost their season openers as they rival for places in the AFC East.
