Wood came close to a perfect game[/caption]
Wood became the first player in 65 years to throw no-hitters in the CWS.
The 21-year-old joins an elite club featuring Jim Ehrler of Texas in 1950 and Jim Wixson of Oklahoma State ten years later as the only men to achieve the feat in the competition.
Wood’s performance also saw him set a new record for most strikeouts in a nine-inning game.
And he was in with a chance of a perfect game until the eighth inning when his ball hit Dom Decker’s foot.
Wood’s 119th and final pitch came in at a staggering 97mph.
There was a huge celebrations when he struck out the last batter, with him underlining the word Arkansas written across his chest.
He was mobbed by his team-mates and there was a lengthy standing ovation from every supporter in the stadium.
Wood celebrated by handing his father, who was in the stands, the game ball.
Fans were left stunned on social media, with one saying: “Safe to say he’s an Arkansas Razorback legend now.”
Another added: “One HBP away from perfect damn.”
A third wrote: “He’s Goated.”
More commented: “How to skyrocket your Draft stock 101.”
Wood is a six-foot, 205-pound right-hander is unsurprisingly now tipped to be a first-round pick in July’s Draft.
