‘Has to take that next step’ – Super Bowl champion Osi Umenyiora picks AFC team most likely to stop Kansas City Chiefs


TWO-time Super Bowl champion Osi Umenyiora has selected the team most likely to stop the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs have been to seven straight AFC Championship Games.

And so far their rivals have struggled to find answers on how to stop them in the playoffs.

One of the teams that did manage to defeat the Chiefs in the playoffs was the Cincinnati Bengals.

Umenyiora, 43, thinks the Bengals are well placed to repeat their feat from 2021.

But he backed the Baltimore Ravens as the team most likely to end the Chiefs’ AFC dominance.

The told The Sun, “It’s going to come down to either the Cincinnati Bengals with that high-powered offense or the Baltimore Ravens.

“I’m going to go with the Baltimore Ravens because I think at some point Lamar Jackson has to take that next step.

“This might be the year.

“If I have to pick between the two of them, I’ll go with the Baltimore Ravens.”

Pass rusher Umenyiora won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants.


In a season predictions clip for The Sun, he backed his former team to shine in 2025.

“New York Giants are going to have 11 wins,” he said.

“Whenever they don’t make it, I’m going to say they’ll make it the following year because you’ve got to have faith.”

The former Giants pass rusher also backed Myles Garrett to be defensive player of the year.

And his pick for Most Valuable Player was Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Umenyiora thinks the Baltimore Ravens are the team most likely to stop the Chiefs reaching another Super Bowl[/caption]

Umenyiora was also asked which AFC West team could end the Chiefs’ division dominance.

Kansas City has won nine division titles in a row.

And when asked which team is most likely to end that streak, Umenyiora replied, “I’m going with the Denver Broncos.

“I think Bo Nix that rookie quarterback from last year is going to improve this year.

“I think the defense is just fantastic under the tutelage of Vance Joseph.

“They’re a very good football team, ready to ascend.”
