The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) today forecasted increased thunderstorms, predicting heavy rainfall in 70% of the three regions. Fifty provinces are expected to face severe weather, prompting warnings about flash floods, forest runoff, and landslides.
The weather forecast for the next 24 hours indicates that northern Thailand will experience more widespread thunderstorms and isolated heavy rain, particularly in the eastern region. Residents are advised to remain vigilant due to potential heavy rainfall and accumulation, which could lead to flash floods, forest runoff, and landslides.
This is attributed to the monsoon trough passing over the northern and upper northeastern regions, combined with the moderate southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
Currently, the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are experiencing moderate winds and waves, with wave heights reaching approximately 2 metres in the upper Andaman Sea and 1 to 2 metres in the lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand.
In areas with thunderstorms, waves may exceed 2 metres. Mariners in these regions should exercise caution and avoid navigating near thunderstorms.
In the north, thunderstorms are expected in 60% of the area, with heavy rain in provinces including Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, and Tak. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26°C, with highs of 34 to 35°C. The southwest wind will blow at 5 to 15 kilometres per hour.
