Historic NFL team facing stadium decision after stalling on new lease despite $185 million Super Bowl renovation

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS have agreed a new lease for the iconic Caesars Superdome – but are yet to sign.

The stadium – which has hosted a record eight Super Bowls – has been home of the Saints since 1975.

It underwent extensive $185million renovations almost two decades ago, reopening in 2006.

Despite no suggestion that the Saints are looking to move away from the venue, their current lease agreement remains unsigned.

The stadium lease, which would run for 10 years and then give the Saints options to renew every five years through 2055, has been finalized since last week, per NOLA.

But the deal is being held up by “unresolved agreements tied to nearby properties,” Jeff Duncan writes.

“The Saints and the state of Louisiana have agreed to the terms of a long-term lease of the Caesars Superdome,” he continued.

“But it hasn’t been signed because the two sides are still haggling over leases for Benson Tower, Champions Square and the team’s practice facility in Jefferson Parish.”

Duncan added in a post on X that “negotiations are stuck in a seemingly intractable standoff.”

“The future of the team in NOLA is at risk,” he added.

The delay in signing the lease may result in the Saints missing out on hosting the 2031 Super Bowl.

If the city can’t bid on the 2031 game, scheduling issues would likely prevent New Orleans from hosting again until 2038.

But the expectation from the Saints is the deal will be “finalized soon,” per the report.

On the field, it’s been a poor start to the season for New Orleans.

The team currently sit bottom of the NFC South with three losses.

They were humbled by the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, losing 44-13 at Lumen Field.
