Honda sparks outrage with new dealership months after neighbor’s battle with Nissan over fence left town on final straw

PLANS for a new Honda dealership have sparked outrage in a town – after years of neighbours rowing over a nearby Nissan car lot.

Neighbors took to social media to express their frustration with the announcement that yet another car dealership would be operating in their small town.

The new Honda dealership is set to come to the Hill Country, along the Scenic Loop at Interstate 10.

This Honda of Boerne is expected to open in the summer of 2026, after being one of the few major car manufacturers absent from the growing Hill Country city.

An announcement about the new dealership was made on Facebook by the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce last week, which attracted a number of responses in the comment section from residents of Boerne.

One write: “Great another dealership.

“You should really listen to the people who actually live in this area, we don’t want this.”

The Nissan of Boerne car dealership opened just nearby more around a decade ago.

Another added to the post: “I’ve never seen such a small town with so many dealerships.

“Wild. Mostly worried about all the light pollution.”

The Honda dealership will come equipped with sales, maintenance, service and parts departments.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony earlier in the month, Scott Crabtree of Pohanka Automotive Group expressed his excitement about “being part of the community” and added the new dealership would be “particularly nice”.

He said: “Here on I-10, [there is] a lot of traffic, good centralized location.

“Should be able to come through us from any part of the state, we normally attract customers from a hundred miles away.”

Local opposition first came in 2023, when Pohanka won a national bid to bring the dealership to the Texas Hill Country.

Residents then voiced their concerns during a public hearing, after the company applied for a Special Use Permit.

Among those where around the noise disruptions that have been caused for neighbors by other car dealerships, particularly during their construction period.

Kendall County local, Alex Rudd, was concerned the city was already full of a host of dealerships at this time two years ago.

Alex said: “If this is not committed to be a car lot, I would like to see more that is in tune with what is left of the environment we want to preserve.”

CEO of the Boerne Kendall County Economic Development Corporation, Amy Story, told MySA though that her team were working closely with the dealerhship to ensure a regulated and positive build out phase for residents.

“They have been fantastic partners,” she said.

“[Honda of Boerne] are dedicated to being good neighbors.”

Story claims this can be achieved through a $25 million investment Honda have directed to the community and enabling neighbors to build or replace a fence if desired during the construction process.

On top of that, the dealership is projected to bring almost 100 new high-paying jobs to the area.
