I am not sure if it will be right to see Aditi as a negative lead by just considering that she is Arshi’s daughter. As per what I know and what I have studied, Moon is not a negative character.
You were part of a popular franchise earlier with Udaariyaan. How excited are you to be part of another big franchise like Jhanak?
I was super excited to be a part of Udaariyaan. That was the time I was understanding the process of work. I am more excited to be a part of Jhanak. Both are top-running shows, so I am grateful to be a part of it.
Have you followed Jhanak earlier? What were your thoughts on accepting it?
I have known Jhanak as a show. I had the idea of the concept’s blueprint, but I could not follow every episode. I would call it divine timing and I did not have any major thought process behind it. I had just completed a movie. I was about to do another project which got postponed due to certain situations. I had the bandwidth, so I thought of doing a TV show. I wanted to do a cameo and went for a mock. When I got selected, I was told that they wanted me for a year and not for a few months. Ultimately, that did not materialise owing to character requirements. This gave me the realisation that if I can provide a year’s commitment, why opt for a cameo and not as a lead?
Tell us about your role of Aditi aka Moon in Jhanak. What do you like best in her?
Firstly, I like the name Moon. She is a lecturer at a University. She is very mature, comes from a well-to-do family. She is the daughter of Arshi and Aniruddh. She is a simple, happy soul with good intent. She loves Rishi, wants to have a happy married life, and wants to make people around her happy.
Will it be right if we call Aditi the negative lead, considering that she is Arshi’s daughter? Give us your thoughts.
I am not sure if it will be right to see Aditi as a negative lead by just considering that she is Arshi’s daughter. As we know, the blueprint of the trio is the same but the story is different. If you talk about Arshi, she might have gone negative in everything. But when you talk about Moon, as per what I know and what I have studied, she is not a negative character. She is positive and wants happiness around her loved ones. She is just focused on her life, her growth and Rishi. She wants Arshi to accept Rishi and aims to get married. Even later, she is a source of happiness for all the family members. All she cares is about Rishi’s well-being.
What do you think is the USP of this new phase of Jhanak?
The USP of this new phase of Jhanak is that nobody is wrong in their place. I don’t feel Jhanak is wrong in her place, Moon is not wrong too and the same goes with Rishi. It is going to be subjective to every character and how the audience perceives it.
On the day of the launch, Twinkle as Moon was trending on Twitter and I was shocked. I was so grateful for these efforts made for me by fans.
What do you think of generation leaps in popular shows? A few of the leaps have worked and a few have not worked. What do you think is crucial when such leaps are taken?
Of course, generation leaps in popular shows come with their pros and cons. The cons are that the new cast has this pressure of maintaining the benchmark and taking it forward. Also, the audience loves the existing characters so much that taking their love towards the new cast is very pressurizing. I think working truly with good intent is crucial at this particular point in time. This has been my experience when I started my work with Udaariyaan. Initially, I had no idea what was happening around me. I intended to perform and give my heart to it. Over the period, people understood that I was working hard and accepted me. I believe the same has to fall in place for Jhanak too.
What kind of roles attract you? Anything that you want to explore?
I try to jump into roles that I have never done before. Nehmat was a very pure soul, sacrificing for everybody. Naveli, unfortunately, people did not see, was purely the dark side of the racist girl. Moon is a very realistic character, who does not fall into the boundary of black, white or grey. She loves all and is in love with Rishi. As to what I want to explore, I want to explore comedy and action.
How excited are you to work with Arjit Taneja and Riya Sharma? Tell us about the experience so far.
I am excited to work with them. Both of them are happy-go-lucky. I feel the vibe will match with them. I have not shot with Riya. With Arjit, we have shot a few scenes, and it was easy performing with him.
How have you grown as a performer? How will you rate yourself now? Any areas where you want to improve or learn more?
By the grace of God, I think I have grown as a performer. Even life teaches you a lot. That is the positive perk of being an actor. Even when the camera is off, every situation brings out a new layer of you. If you are an observer, you learn so much. I will not rate myself and will always look for improvement.
What are your expectations from Jhanak?
I expect a happy journey where I will put my heart into it. I want people to love Moon, accept her and give her more love than what they have given Nehmat. I want this to become a blissful journey.
What do you want to tell your fans?
On the day of the launch, Twinkle as Moon was trending on Twitter, and I was shocked. I was so grateful for these efforts made for me. I love my fans a lot. I am grateful to all the new audience coming in to support me.
