From television to OTT and films, bold content has become increasingly common across platforms, says actress Surjasikha Das. The actress, known for her work in the Kajol-starrer Maa, as well as Call Me Bae, Gutargu Season 3, The Night Manager, The Trial, and Bade Acche Lagte Hain Season 3, says she is very clear about where she stands.

“To be honest, I am not comfortable doing bold scenes at this point in my career. That said, I have not shut the door on the possibility either. I am keeping an open mind for now. Like I have mentioned before, if a character truly demands it, I would not mind considering it — but it would also depend on many other factors, such as who is directing the project, which production house is backing it, why I am doing it, and whether it aligns with my career goals,” she says.

She adds, “All of these elements would influence my decision. So, for now, it is something I will revisit only if and when the need genuinely arises. But yes, currently, I am not comfortable doing bold scenes. Ultimately, if boldness serves the character and brings authenticity to the role, then I think it’s justified. And I believe audiences today are smart enough to understand the difference between boldness that’s essential to the story and boldness that’s added purely for shock value or showbiz.”

When asked whether content imitates society or influences it, the actress says, “I believe it works both ways. A lot of the content we see today — whether in films, OTT, or television — is inspired by real life. At the same time, this content influences how society thinks and evolves. When bold or real-life issues are portrayed with sensitivity and intention, they can become powerful tools for spreading awareness. These platforms have the reach and impact to spark conversations and bring about change.”

She concludes, “People often dismiss TV serials as overly dramatic, but in reality, many of those stories reflect what’s actually happening in society. So if storytelling is done well, these mediums can serve as important mirrors to our world — provided they are used responsibly.”
