Clark, 23, is a two-time all star and commands a huge fanbase on social media[/caption]
In the ill-fated press conference, Krauskopf claimed she wanted to make the Fever a brand ‘as big as Apple.’
However, in setting out her imagined pathway to these goals, some fans feel she disrespected WNBA superstar Clark.
Krauskopf said: ‘Yes, we have a foundational players in Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston, and we’re going to add to that.
“But I want this team to be a leader in the country, and an enduring brand – like Apple or something. We have a real opportunity here.”
Fans of the Fever – and some who simply follow Clark – felt the reference of growing past the ‘foundational’ 23-year-old was disrespectful.
Users took to Krauskopf’s account on X to voice their discontent with her comments.
One user said: “You are fumbling a generational talent. This brand you speak of does not exist without Caitlin. Fix this s**t.
Another used added: “Y’all are losing Caitlin’s fanbase to a level y’all can’t comprehend.”

Immediately after the backlash, fans discovered that Krauskopf’s X account had been disabled, seemingly in response to the reaction from Clark’s fans.
The Iowa native has become one of the WNBA’s biggest stars since being snapped up by the fever as the first overall pick of the 2024 draft.
She was 2024’s Rookie of the Year, and is already a two-time WNBA all-star, garnering 3.5million Instagram followers on her way.
Clark scored 12 points as the Fever beat the Atlanta Dream on Friday night to go 10-10 on the season so far.
