Jacobson Plaza opening Monday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Jacobson Plaza is set to open on Monday.

The $16 million project includes an all-inclusive playground, splash pad, dog park, skating ribbon and a restaurant. The City of Sioux Falls contributed $8 million and Garry Jacobson $5.5 million for the entire project. Private donors also helped raise funds.

KELOLAND News was invited on a tour of the plaza ahead of its opening.

Playground

The playground at Jacobson Plaza is the largest playground in Sioux Falls. At over 26,000 square feet, the playground is all inclusive, includes five structures, swings, sensory-friendly areas and widened ramps.

Splash Pad

The splash pad at Jacobson Plaza will be the largest splash pad in Sioux Falls. It is free for the public to use and has different water features like sprinklers and dump buckets. There are three different zones for different age groups. T. Denny Sanford donated $1.5 million for the project.

Dog Park

The dog park has two sections, one for any size dog and one for small dogs. There is a shaded area, seating, water bowls and waste bags available in the dog park section of the plaza. Craig Lloyd, the founder of Lloyd Properties, donated $1 million for the Pawsible Dog Park.

Skating Ribbon

The 14,000 square foot refrigerated skating ribbon will be filled with ice from Thanksgiving to St. Patrick’s Day. Skate rentals will $3 and 45-minute sessions on the ice will be $5. During the warmer months, the ribbon can be used for roller skating and vendor markets.

Restaurant

The Lodge is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and until 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Washington Pavilion is running the food and beverage service at the restaurant.
