Love will undergo a procedure on his left thumb to repair a damaged ligament.
He isn’t expected to miss any time in the regular season, and should return to practice within a week.
The injury was sustained when Love attempted to escape the pocket on a third-down play.
While he was running away, his hand hit defensive tackle Jay Tufele’s helmet and the play ended in a sack.
Love exited the game after he was taken down.
“Yeah, that last play where he split two guys,” Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said.
“I think a helmet just got it.”
The injury was to Love’s non-throwing hand, so the only concern is about his ability to handle a snap.
He should have no trouble throwing the ball after the procedure.
The team isn’t concerned with Love’s ability to be back for Week 1 of the regular season, with Gutekunst saying Green Bay will “get him back in plenty of time, and I don’t foresee this affecting him long term at all.”
Head coach Matt LaFleur said he expects a “relatively quick recovery.”
“He’s had a good camp so far. Obviously, I think as he gets back, we’ll kind of assess where he’s at,” Gutekunst said.
“It’s one of those things where I think he’ll be back at practice next week.
“How much he can do leading into that Seattle game, we’ll kind of see. He’ll be day to day a little bit.
“You never want any of these guys to be out because you want to be working as a team.
