Passengers on a long-haul tour bus were left stunned this morning when a woman was found dead in her seat after a 12-hour journey from Sisaket to Phetchaburi.
The shocking discovery was made at around 7am today, August 28, when the bus stopped in front of a department store on Phetkasem Road in Ton Mamuang subdistrict, Mueang district, Phetchaburi province.
Police Lieutenant Jiraporn Phunpipat, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) at Phetchaburi City Police Station, along with doctors from Phra Chom Klao Hospital, arrived on the scene to investigate.
The woman, identified as 46 year old Manatsanan (surname withheld), was found dead in seat C, having reportedly passed away at least three hours before being discovered, according to the preliminary autopsy.
Bus driver Niran (surname withheld) told officers the woman boarded the Ubon-Hua Hin tour bus in Sisaket at 7.30pm yesterday, August 27.
“She didn’t look well, so I helped her onto the bus. When we arrived in Phetchaburi, she didn’t respond, and at the same time, her husband called. I had to break the news.”
The woman’s husband, Sommai (surname withheld), revealed that his wife had recently been discharged from a hospital in Sisaket after receiving treatment for kidney disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and anaemia.
“I told her not to travel. She insisted. We spoke before she boarded the bus. I called again in the morning, expecting to pick her up, but instead, the driver told me she had died.”
KhaoSod reported that doctors at Phra Chom Klao Hospital confirmed the cause of death as acute renal failure. The family did not suspect foul play and planned to take the body for religious rites.
The incident has prompted discussion online over the risks of long-distance travel for those with serious health conditions, especially those recently discharged from the hospital.
In a similar incident, a 38 year old man was found dead on a bus parked at a terminal in Lampang province on June 16. The bus had arrived from Nakhon Ratchasima en route to Chiang Mai when the discovery was made. The man, a resident of Phichai subdistrict in Mueang district, was found seated at the rear of the vehicle.
