Kaeng Krachan National Park has launched Operation Huai Khom Krit to combat wildlife poaching and trade, as well as to protect natural resources.
On September 8, Atthapong Phaoaon, the head of Kaeng Krachan National Park, along with Yaan Uansinga, the assistant head, and a team of 32 patrol officers, announced the special operation aimed at curbing illegal wildlife activities and environmental destruction.
Atthapong revealed that the current situation in Huai Khom Krit suffers from significant illegal poaching activities due to the area’s rich wildlife population. In response, the park has deployed a large team to apprehend offenders. The operation will be conducted from September 8 to 13.
Atthapong emphasised the importance of cautious execution of the operation, highlighting its role in reducing illegal wildlife hunting and trade. This initiative is also crucial for preserving wildlife within the ecosystem of Kaeng Krachan National Park, a significant World Heritage Site in Thailand.
The primary goal of this operation is to arrest those involved in illegal activities, ensuring the long-term protection of natural resources and wildlife from unlawful encroachment and destruction.

In related news, Khao Laem National Park rangers arrested 66 year old Sapi in a hidden forest shelter after they spotted his abandoned longtail boat along a remote stream.
When they searched his hut, they found a muzzle-loading musket, 15 rounds of ammunition, two bottles of gunpowder, and two knives he likely used to prepare wildlife carcasses, revealing the full extent of his poaching equipment.
Sapi, who has no registered surname, faces charges of illegally entering a protected area and possessing firearms and hunting tools without a license.
Officials warned that poaching continues to threaten endangered species in the park, including tigers, leopards, and elephants, and urged the public to report suspicious activity to help safeguard Thailand’s natural heritage.
