THE KANSAS City Chiefs defence had more than just a loss to worry about after their season-opening defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Chiefs’ campaign to win back their Super Bowl title got off to a bad start as they fell to a 27-21 defeat in their season opener at Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo.

But more concerning still was the squabble that broke out late in the game between defensive stars Chris Jones and Drue Tranquill.
Jones and an unhelmeted Tranquill could be seen on the broadcast exchanging some heated words on the field.
With linebacker Nick Bolton attempting to keep the duo separate, Tranquill appears to yell “I am trying to win bro.”
His next sentence is less clear, with social media users suggesting he could be saying “… and we lose every contain,” or “I don’t want to go seven and 10.”
The confrontation came following Justin Herbert‘s successful run on third-and-14, which all but sealed the game for the Chargers.
Following the game, Tranquill downplayed the significance of the incident to the press.
He said: “Emotions are just high. We’re all competitive. We all want to win.
“And so we were just discussing what happened on the play, and emotions were just high.”
Linebacker Tranquill won the 2023 Super Bowl after making the switch from the Chargers.
His teammate Jones is more tenured in KC, having been drafted by them in the second round of the 2016 draft and staying ever since, winning three Super Bowls along the way.
The 6ft 6in pass rusher was a bold target for Tranquill to take out his frustrations on, but he insisted there was no ill will toward the big man.
“Chris is a great player,” he continued. “I’m not sure what happened, I haven’t seen the tape over there. But we’re teammates, man.
“We’re brothers, it’s just an emotional moment. We’ve had it before in the past.
“That’s my guy. We’ll be all right, we’ll get better from it.”
The Chiefs will indeed have to get better if they want to maintain their Super Bowl aspirations.

Tight end Travis Kelce made one touchdown, but couldn’t spur his side to victory[/caption]
They suffered three straight preseason defeats ahead of the season opener, and there can be no doubt that Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce‘s team are not as potent as the league is used to seeing them.
“I thought the first half we were off a bit, and in the second half it picked up a little bit, we had a few more explosives there.
“I have got to make sure that we start faster.”
To make things worse, star wide receiver Xavier Worthy left the field injured in the first quarter, and will have to receive an MRI scan to determine the severity of his injury.
It is not set to get any easier for the Chiefs as they host NFL Champs the Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday in a repeat of February’s Super Bowl match-up.
The Eagles opened their season up with a 24-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday.
