Jones, 31, discovered that she had sadly passed away from a heart attack after the victory over the New York Giants.

She had been watching the game when the tragedy struck.

The defensive tackle attended her funeral in Houston, Mississippi just hours before the Chiefs’ clash with the Ravens.

Jones made it back to Arrowhead Stadium in time for the game and contributed to the team’s second win of the season.

He has revealed the pain that he felt when he found out about her death.

He said: “She was actually watching my game when she passed away.

“She meant a lot to me.

“I actually got the news after the game…It was very unexpected.”

Jones said he was “very close” to Angela and was left calling around his family trying to find out what happened.

He added: “I was calling everybody, like, ‘hell yeah!’ and then, you know.

“Everyone was like, call your mom, call your sister.

“And unfortunately, she had a heart attack watching the game.”

The Chiefs ran out 37-20 winners to make it back-to-back wins ahead of their game against the Las Vegas Raiders on October 19.

Jones was selected in the 2016 NFL Draft and has been a key part of the team’s dynasty.

He has won three Super Bowl titles and is considered the leader of the defensive unit.

Coach Andy Reid did accommodate Jones’ request to go to her funeral.

Jones added: “Me and Coach Reid talked about it, and more so it was about making my aunt’s funeral.

“If there was a time frame where I could get back I would try to get back.

“But they completely understood and came up with a plan around it.”
