It will take James into his 23rd NBA campaign.
And he will be hoping to add a fifth Championship to his collection after leading the Lakers to glory in 2020.
James, also a winner with the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers, had been set for free agency before extending his LA deal.
Previous reports suggested that James was even considering retirement after a glorious career.
And it has now been revealed that wife Savannah has earmarked when she wants him to call it a day.
James and his partner went for dinner in New York at the weekend, where one diner managed to record the retirement revelation.
And during it, James could be heard saying to friends: “Savannah wants me to f*****g retire in the next year or so.”
James and Savannah have been together for some time, having met in high school back in 2002.
The lovebirds got married 11 years later in a glittering ceremony in San Diego.
And the couple share three children together in Bronny, 20, Bryce, 18, and Zhuri, 10.
Bronny and Bryce have both followed in their father’s footsteps, with the latter a college basketball player for the Arizona Wildcats.
As for Bronny, he plays alongside dad James for the LA Lakers and played 29 times for them last season.
