This isn’t the first time that Self has dealt with health issues concerning his heart.
He missed the 2023 Big 12 and NCAA tournaments due to a heart condition.
Self underwent a standard heart catheterization and needed two stents inserted for treatment of blocked arteries.
He later shared that he had a heart problem going back to the fall of the 2022-23 season and had his aorta valve replaced.
Self will be entering his 23rd season at Kansas.
He led the school to national titles in 2008 and 2002.
Self leads the program all-time in wins with 609.
His Jayhawks have also won 16 regular-season conference titles and eight conference tournament championships.
Self was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017.
Speculation about Self retiring from college basketball increased mightily toward the end of last season, but he shut down that talk numerous times.

Their regular-season opener will be on November 3 against Green Bay.
