A MAJOR “off-price” retailer is opening up two locations, kicking off its expansion of 60 stores.
The grand openings come after the retailer scooped up 45 storefronts that used to house Joann stores.
Burlington, an off-price retailer, per their website, is set to open two stores this week in Maine and Texas.
The locations open Friday in Bangor, Maine and Laredo, Texas.
The Bangor, Maine storefront will be the second in the state alongside the South Portland location, giving Maine residents another place to shop.
The retailer will open six additional locations in Texas throughout October and November, with two stores opening in Houston.
After 255 Joann locations closed by the end of April, and the remaining closed up shop in May, Burlington was quick to take over the leases of old stores.
Court documents from April show Burlington took over 45 leases while an additional 10 locations had leases taken over by other companies, including Hobby Lobby, who acquired a Florida location.
The US Sun previously reported that experts believed competitors had to aggressively pursue the Joann locations that closed due to the company’s bankruptcy.
“Our recent conversations with real estate contacts suggest very little new shopping center growth is planned in the US for the foreseeable future — meaning chains with high store growth ambitions, like [Burlington], will need to be aggressively going after locations from retail bankruptcies along the way,” said analysts from Evercore, an investment bank.
Burlington is opening more stores in 23 states and in Puerto Rico in the next few months.
October 3 is the next big day for Burlington grand openings.
Stores will open in New York, Ohio, Michigan, Texas, Kentucky, Illinois and California on the October 3–also known as National Mean Girls Day.

With the grand openings, Burlington is offering a $10 bonus card to shoppers to celebrate.
The bonus card is valid only on the Friday and Saturday of Grand Opening weekend for the first 100 customers.
The credit can only be used for purchases totaling $10 or more and cannot be combined with additional coupons or offers.

With these new locations popping up, Burlington is looking to hire staff to fill the stores and distribution centers.
Burlington operates over 1,000 locations nationwide offering products from name brands at discounted rates.
Some brands found in Burlington include Steve Madden, Revlon, Tommy Hilfiger, Juicy Couture and Calvin Klein, according to FinanceBuzz.
