The Aussie’s shorts caused quite a stir on social media[/caption]

And judging from his choice of clothing, the 37-year-old was happy to be back on American soil.

The one-time PGA major winner donned an incredible pair of star-spangled banner shorts for his outing on the course.

He completed his outfit with a white bomber jacket, which also featured stars and stripes.

Day shared footage of himself hitting a few shots at Oakmont on his social media channels.

But it was his outfit, in particular his shorts, which ended up being the major talking point.

One golf fan said of Day’s get-up: “Looks like a skirt!”

Another said: “Straight outta Rocky III.”

And another said: “[He’s] pool ready.”

One remarked: “Outstanding.”

Another chimed in: “Jason Day nipping a chip in full ‘merica mode.”

Day’s pre-tournament run-through has him convinced that an 18-handicapper would need more than TRIPLE that number even to come close to being victorious this weekend.

When asked for his thoughts on how an 18-handicapper would do, he replied: “A legit 18 marker, I think 150 is pretty solid.

“They would just struggle.

“I mean, it’s difficult out there. Most 18 handicappers typically don’t have the greatest control off the tee box.

“They’re probably hitting this swipey cut into the right rough.

“They’ve got no knowledge of how to hit the angle of attack on some of these, so they’re hitting these shots which are coming out way left.

“They’re going to be beaming the ball across, back and forth. 150 I feel like is very good for an 18-marker.”
