A lost phone led to the discovery of the skeleton of a Thai man inside an abandoned building in the Chaeng Wattana area of Nonthaburi province near Bangkok.
A Thai man posted on Facebook, sharing photos of the skeleton taken inside the abandoned building and appealing to netizens to help him identify the location. He explained that he lost his mobile phone, and the person who found it used it to take the pictures.
According to the man, he accidentally dropped his phone at the entrance of Soi Chaeng Wattana 14. When he called the number, someone answered and agreed to return the device. After retrieving it, he was shocked to discover images of a skeleton saved on the phone.
Unable to contact the finder again, he turned to social media for help, hoping the skeleton could be identified and reunited with its family.
Well-known influencer Guntouch “Gun” Pongpaiboonwet stepped in to assist, eventually locating the building where the skeleton was found.

Gun then coordinated with Pak Kret Police Station officers, who managed to identify the phone finder as 30 year old Sarayut “Bas” Wongcharoen. Bas was summoned for questioning yesterday, September 30.
Some media outlets, along with the phone’s owner, reported that Bas appeared to have mental health issues, though he was able to cooperate with police.
Bas explained that he had no intention of keeping the phone and waited for contact from the owner. While waiting, he attempted to use it, but the device was locked. The only accessible feature was the camera.

He said he walked into a nearby abandoned building and climbed to the third floor, intending to take a selfie with the view. Instead, he unexpectedly discovered the skeleton and took several photos.
Bas admitted he had previously been inside the building while evading arrest for theft, but had never ventured beyond the ground floor until then.

Police officers, along with rescue workers and forensic experts, later examined the remains. An identification card was found inside a red wallet in a black backpack next to the body, confirming the deceased as 55 year old La Kham-inbut from Lampang province in northern Thailand. Experts estimated he had been dead for at least three to four months.
Police contacted La’s older brother, who revealed that the two had previously lived together in Chiang Mai before La moved to Bangkok for work. He admitted that he changed his phone number, making it impossible for La to reach him.
The brothers had not spoken for about a year before the discovery. La’s brother has since arranged to travel to Nonthaburi to hold a funeral.
