
THE Powerball jackpot is now estimated to be worth $1 billion after no winners landed the previous $861 million on Wednesday.
The staggering prize amount has only hit the billion-dollar mark six times in the 33 years the game has been around.

Tickets to enter the drawing are only $2 for Americans who want to take the chance on landing a life-altering payday.
“We’re bringing extra excitement to Labor Day Weekend with a Powerball jackpot that’s climbed to a billion dollars!” Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO said in a press release.
“For just $2, every ticket is a chance to win big, while also giving back to public programs and services that benefit communities wherever Powerball is played.”
The drawing takes place at 10:59 pm ET on Saturday, August 30, and eligible tickets must be bought in most states at least an hour beforehand.
It’s also the 39th drawing since the last Powerball jackpot win in California on May 31.
