MACY’S will charge non-members a fee to return an item this holiday season.
Holidays are some of the busiest periods for returns, and Macy’s is going to charge you just to do it.

Last year, Macy’s extended its return period for the holiday season last year, it will carry over to this year.
The U.S. Sun spoke with an employee in South Carolina that revealed no memo changing the holiday return policy have been given.
This means, for items bought at the store for Christmas, most can be exchanged until January 31, 2026.
Just note, this is only if the items were purchased between October 7, 2025 and December 31.
In order to complete a successful return, the item must still be in its original condition with the original tags still on it.
If you bought an item in-store, it must be returned at that same location.
For items bought online, they can be shipped back or taken to a store.
THE FINE PRINT
Macy’s generally accepts returns within 30 days, but there are exceptions that shoppers need to be aware of.
Customers who are not Star Reward members will now have $9.99 removed from your refund if the item is returned via mail.
Star Rewards is a loyalty program from Macy’s offering shoppers who join many perks.
The store also has the right to refuse your return without a valid receipt.
A customer wanting to return an item is encouraged to check the return policy that applies to their item.
STAR REWARDS
The Star Rewards are part of Macy’s loyalty program, where shoppers may earn points on qualifying purchases that convert to “Star Money” rewards.
These can be redeemed like cash on future Macy’s purchases.
The program has different status levels – Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum.
It’s based on annual spending using a Macy’s credit card, with higher tiers offering greater benefits like Star Money Bonus Days and, for Gold and Platinum, free shipping.
Joining is simple as anyone can enroll for free to become a Bronze-level member.
Members will then earn one point for every $1 spent on qualifying purchases.
One shoppers accumulate 1,000 points, members will receive a $10 Star Money reward.
Additionally, members receive special savings, surprise offers, and may opt in for emails to receive notifications about bonus point opportunities.
LOCATIONS CLOSED
The CEO of Macy’s, Tony Spring, has delivered a stark message following store shutdowns.
By the end of next year, Macy’s aims to have removed 150 stores from its footprint.
As a part of this, 66 stores have already shuttered this year.
Spring said in a May earnings call that Macy’s would struggle while it is carrying out its restructure plan.
He said: “I would say just in terms of sales from store closures, you have the interesting impact, just to frame it for folks, that when the stores are closing, you have a slight depression of sales in the existing stores because of the going out of business communication in that environment,” he explained.
“And then, following, you start to see the recovery and opportunity to recapture.”
While the stores close, the ones remaining open will be remodeled, and some have already been completed.
The CEO also claimed in the call that the 125 stores that have already been renovated are outperforming the ones that haven’t been yet.
Progress is also being made on 30 smaller Macy’s stores set to open.
Alongside this, 15 Bloomingdales stores and 30 Bluemercury stores will be added to the company’s footprint.
