A MAJOR car company has recalled a popular model, affecting thousands of vehicles due to a potential safety issue.
Drivers were warned that roughly 62,500 vehicles could burst into flames because of a leaky brake issue.

General Motors recalled Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks over a concern about faulty brake pressure sensors that could leak and cause a fire.
Brake pressure sensors are important for vehicle safety because they monitor and relay brake fluid pressure, enabling the vehicle’s computer to control braking effectively and ensure timely stopping.
They help maintain optimal braking performance and can detect potential issues, such as leaks or low fluid levels, before they become critical.
Leaks can lead to brake fluid loss, potentially causing reduced braking power, increased stopping distance, and even brake failure.
In more serious cases, like the General Motors recall, brake fluid leakage can contaminate other components, leading to electrical shorts, which can trigger fires.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD pickups from model years 2019-2025 were affected.
They “have a brake pressure sensor assembly that may allow brake fluid to leak beyond the diaphragm seal into the brake pressure switch,” the automaker said.
The automaker urged drivers to park their pickup trucks outside until the issue is resolved, lessening the risk of injury.
The car company also prompted drivers to park their vehicles away from buildings just in case a fire did erupt.
As per the recall report, the issue was linked to a supplier that was using an “unauthorized chemical” while manufacturing the vehicle’s “rubber diaphragm” used within the brake pressure sensor assembly.
Those who were impacted by the recall should take their Chevy to their local dealership.
Dealership employees will then swap the brake pressure switch wire harness for one with a “silicone sealant,” which will stop any potential leakage.
Drivers who need to get the sensor replaced will not be charged for the service.
Chevrolet trucks, particularly the Silverado, have a strong reputation for reliability and safety features.
How can I check if my car is part of a recall?
If you own a car that’s been recently recalled, you can easily check your VIN.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) makes it incredibly quick and easy for drivers to check and see if their vehicle is part of a recent (or past) recall.
The VIN checking tool also allows drivers to see whether or not the repair was completed within the last 15 years, making it an incredible tool for buyers of used cars.
All recalls initiated by the NHTSA mean free repairs for drivers, even if it’s an engine or a transmission replacement. If your VIN shows an active recall that has not been repaired, it’s important to make an appointment at your nearest dealership.
Here’s how to make an appointment for a recall:
- Look up your VIN using the NHTSA tool.
- Find out the recall number/ID from the manufacturer.
- Call your nearest dealership’s service center with the ID number handy, and mention you’d like to schedule an appointment to repair the recall. The repair can only be done at a dealership, as they’re authorized by the manufacturer to conduct the repair free of cost using genuine parts.
- Try to make the appointment as soon as possible.
- Once the repair is completed, the dealership will update the information associated with the VIN to reflect it’s been completed.

Car and Driver rated the 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 an 8.5/10, claiming it was “widely capable” and could “tackle whatever job you might throw at it.”
The Silverado was the second most popular vehicle in the US in 2023, designed to take on any job with unbeatable strength and durability.
“Chevy Silverado sales were flat at 552,836 units while the Silverado EV shot up 1,500 percent to 7,428 units,” according to a 2014 GM Authority report.
According to the report, GM full-size truck sales (including those of the Chevy Silverado, Silverado EV, the GMC Sierra, and the Sierra EV) were in high demand last year, outpacing key rivals in terms of both volume and growth rate.
The automaker anticipated a potential loss in sales due to President Trump’s push to remove EV tax credits.
“Though highly competitive, attractive, and class-leading, the battery electric trucks are likely to face headwinds given the incoming Trump administration’s plans to remove EV tax credits, something that would make EVs less attractive from a financial standpoint,” the report said.
If you’re unsure whether your car was affected, you can visit the NHTSA website and use their VIN lookup tool.
