Throughout the offseason, Hendrickson has said he will not play the 2025 season for the Bengals under his current contract.
The Bengals begin training camp on Tuesday as all of the players are expected to report, except for two players, Hendrickson, and rookie Shemar Stewart.
The 2025 first-round pick Stewart’s holdout is due to the language in the rookie contract.
Hendrickson, meanwhile, has been frustrated over earning $21 million in the last year of his four-year contract he signed back in 2021.
On Tuesday morning, Hendrickson confirmed to ESPN that he won’t be working with the Bengals after a drama-filled offseason that has included few signs of optimism for an agreement on a new deal.
He also posted a picture on Instagram from Florida.
The snap showed the sunrise from a highway.
For each camp day missed, Hendrickson will be subject to a fine of $50,000.
Bengals president Mike Brown shared on Monday that the team is speaking with Hendrickson and thinks the two sides will eventually reach a deal.
However, it’s been reported that the Bengals aren’t willing to give Hendrickson guaranteed money past one year, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
This offseason, NFL star pass rushers Cleveland Browns‘ Myles Garrett, Las Vegas Raiders’ Maxx Crosby, and, most recently, Pittsburgh Steelers‘ T.J. Watt., have signed extensions that offer guaranteed money past the first season.
Hendrickson led the NFL with 17.5 sacks last season.
The Bengals have handed out money to their star players, but Hendrickson hasn’t been included in the spending spree.
Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase received a four-year, $161 million extension, and wideout Tee Higgins earned a four-year, $115 million contract this offseason.

However, before those two deals that offer some guaranteed money past the first season, the Bengals had been known to not give non-quarterbacks guaranteed money past the first year.
On Monday, the 89-year-old Brown noted that Hendrickson has been a tough negotiator since his Bengals arrival in 2021.
“We like Trey as a person,” Brown told reporters.
“He’s a good guy.
