A man from Rehoboth, Massachusetts, is being charged with murder after police say he beat his wife so badly that it crushed her brain stem — the part of the brain that controls basic life functions like breathing and heartbeat. Prosecutors say he then left her lying on the floor for hours before calling for help.
What Happened?
On the night of July 13, 46-year-old Ryan Walsh and his wife, 44-year-old Karen Walsh, were at home when the attack happened. According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, Ryan beat Karen so severely that it caused serious damage to her head and neck.
The injuries were so bad that doctors said her brain stem was crushed. When emergency crews arrived the next morning, she was unresponsive. She was taken to the hospital and later declared brain dead.
He Waited Before Calling 911
What shocked investigators even more was that Ryan didn’t call for help right away. Officials say he waited for hours after the attack before finally dialing 911 early the next morning.
When he called, Ryan told the dispatcher that his wife had “fallen.” But when paramedics arrived, they could tell her injuries were not from a fall. She had deep bruises and serious trauma to her face and head.
The story he gave didn’t match what they were seeing.
Who Was Karen?
People who knew Karen say she was a kind, warm person who cared deeply for others. She worked hard and loved her family. Neighbors said she seemed like a quiet person, but always friendly.
