A man died in a fire that broke out early this morning, September 15, at a four-storey shophouse in Bangkok’s Yan Nawa district. Authorities believe the blaze began in a refrigerated truck parked in front of the building.

The incident occurred at 5.05am when Thung Maha Mek Police Station received reports of a fire near the Nang Linchi intersection on Ratchadaphisek Road, in Chong Nonsi subdistrict.

Firefighters and rescue workers were dispatched to the scene, where they found a refrigerated truck fully ablaze. The flames had already spread to the second and third floors of a connected two-unit shophouse.

Emergency crews managed to extinguish the fire within 20 minutes.

But after the blaze was brought under control, officials discovered a male victim on the third-floor balcony. His identity has not yet been released.

Authorities from the forensic department, along with forensic physicians from Chulalongkorn Hospital and Por Teck Tung Foundation volunteers, were called to examine the scene.

KhaoSod reported that initial assessments suggest the fire originated from the refrigerated truck used for transporting frozen goods and then spread to the building. Investigators are working to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the incident.

Just last week, on September 9, a fire broke out at a three-storey apartment block in Pattaya late at night, prompting a swift evacuation as flames engulfed a top-floor unit.

The fire, reported at 11.36pm, is believed to have started in a room on the third floor. Thick smoke quickly spread through the corridor, forcing residents to flee the building.

Firefighters from Pattaya City’s Disaster Relief Centre and local police brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes, preventing it from spreading to nearby units.

Investigators later identified a rice cooker as the likely cause of the fire, which left the affected room completely destroyed.
