Mickey Lee, a Contestant on ‘Big Brother,’ Dies at 35

Mickey Lee, a contestant on the latest season of the CBS TV show “Big Brother,” who was known for her vibrant personality and bold strategic moves to survive the game, died on Thursday. She was 35.

She died after “a series of cardiac arrests,” following complications from the flu, according to a post on Friday on her official Instagram account.

Ms. Lee competed on Season 27 of the show, making it to the eighth week out of 12.

The show has been a fixture of American television for 25 years.

In it, a group of contestants, called houseguests, are isolated from the world and compete with and against each other, under the constant watch of cameras, and the last remaining guest wins a first-place prize of $750,000.

On Monday, a post on Ms. Lee’s Instagram had said that she was in intensive care in critical but stable condition. The post linked to an online fund-raising effort for Ms. Lee and her family, which had been updated to include funeral expenses.

In one clip from the season where she was a key player, Ms. Lee cries tears of joy after she receives a letter from her mother, causing even her fiercest competitors to join her in elation.

She quickly pivots from one of those interactions to plot against another houseguest.

Speaking in an interview with Shoutout Atlanta in 2023, Ms. Lee said that her mother was her source of inspiration.

“Having her in my corner, cheering me on, has made all the difference,” she said.

Ms. Lee was from Jacksonville, Fla., and “proudly rooted” in Atlanta, according to the online fund-raising site GoFundMe.

She worked as a date night planner before creating Mingle Elevated Experiences, a company that plans and hosts parties, craft nights and other events featuring art, poetry and live music for adults in the Atlanta area, Ms. Lee said in the Shoutout Atlanta interview.

“She poured her heart into building moments, events, and spaces that brought people together,” according to the GoFundMe page.

A complete list of Ms. Lee’s survivors was not immediately available.

Julie Chen Moonves, the host of “Big Brother,” posted a tribute to Ms. Lee on Instagram. She wrote that Ms. Lee was born with a hole in her heart and survived an ATV accident that “should’ve killed her.”

A comment on Ms. Lee’s Instagram from the CBS Big Brother Instagram account lamented “a truly devastating loss.”
