GRAB your popcorn baseball lovers as the MLB All-Star game returns for the 2025 edition – and it is expected to be more epic than ever before!
Some of the greatest skill sets were on display last year at Globe Life Field.

Jarren Duran was last year’s MLB All-Star game hero[/caption]
Fans were treated to Dodgers International sensation Shoehei Ohtani launching a 400-foot homer, Bobby Witt Jr making difficult defensive plays at shortstop, and rookie Paul Skenes getting Aaron Judge to roll over on a 100mph fastball.
But the main talking point of the match was when Boston’s brave breakout center fielder Jarren Duran hit a two-run homer to fire the American League to a 5-3 win over the National Leaguers.
Duran mentioned that it is the first home run that he has ever “pimped” in his life.
But the upcoming match is all bout the current conquerors who make up the National League and American League rosters .
And it will give us a glimpse of what the new automated ball-strike challenge system looks like too.

Who are the MLB All-Star 2025 managers?
Dave Roberts of the defending World Series champion Dodgers and Aaron Boone of the defending AL champion Yankees will serve as the managers.
This will be Roberts’ fourth All-Star Game as the manager of the NL team. He was at the helm in 2018, ’19 and ’21.
Boone will be managing in the Midsummer Classic for the first time.
Joe Torre, who managed the Yankees to four World Series titles, is an honorary coach for the AL team, as is Guardians manager Stephen Vogt.
Braves manager Brian Snitker and Marlins manager Clayton McCullough are the NL’s honorary coaches.
What are the rules?
In 2022, the MLB and MLBPA agreed to a new method to decide All-Star Games: A Home Run Derby.
Not the one that takes place the day prior to the All-Star Game, but rather a new, abbreviated version.
“If the All-Star Game remains tied after nine innings, the game will be decided by a Home Run Derby between the teams, subject to the parties’ agreement on details and format,” the agreement read, per the AP.
The manager for each team will pick three players from the roster who agreed to participate in the tie-breaking format, with one alternate, if needed. One of the coaches on the All-Star team will throw batting practice with an All-Star team bullpen catcher behind the plate.
Batters that participate will have three swings each to hit as many home runs as possible. The team with the most home runs between the three batters will be determined the winner.
In addition to that, batters can take as many pitches as needed without it counting against their swing total, unlike in the Home Run Derby, where it is based on a timer.
Should they still be tied after the three batters swing, the managers will pick tiebreaker batters and each will have three swings to break the tie, until one team wins.
How does the automated ball-strike challenge system work?
This will mark the first time the event features use of the automated ball-strike (ABS) challenge system, powered by T-Mobile’s 5G network.
The game will feature the same rules that were in use during an experiment with the challenge system in Spring Training this year.
Each team will begin the game with two challenges apiece, with correct challenges retained and challenges only coming from the pitcher, catcher or hitter, without any assistance from the dugout.
A challenge occurs when the player taps his cap or helmet to alert the umpire and initiate the challenge.
The batter, the pitcher or the catcher can challenge an umpire’s call. No one else — no, not even the manager — may do so.
Challenges must be made immediately after the umpire’s call, without assistance from the dugout or other players.
The Hawk-Eye view is shown to those in attendance via the video board and to home viewers via the broadcast.
A team only loses its challenge if the umpire’s call is confirmed.
Because challenges can be lost, it is incumbent upon the player to be judicious about asking for a challenge (i.e., not “wasting” it in a low-leverage spot so that it is available to his team in a high-leverage spot). So in that sense, the ABS challenge system adds strategy to the sport.
Does the MLB All-Star game affect the World Series?
To put it simply, no.
That element was removed as part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement before the 2017 season.
Since then, the All-Star Game has returned to being an exhibition and home-field advantage in the World Series has gone to the pennant-winner with the better regular-season record.
