MLB broadcast legend suffers ‘dangerous’ moment in live TV booth leaving viewers stunned – ‘back in the incinerator’

NEW York Mets broadcaster Keith Hernandez nearly had his head taken off during a game.

During the second game of a doubleheader between the Mets and the Baltimore Orioles, a foul ball missed Hernandez by inches.

Hernandez and his broadcast partner, Gary Cohen, got a big laugh out of his slow reaction time[/caption]

Despite the baseball whizzing up into the broadcast booth, Hernandez seemingly never noticed it coming his way.

“Cedric Mullins fouls one back this way,” play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen said.

“And that went right past Keith’s ear and he never saw it.”

After the play was over, SNY showed a slow motion view of the ball shooting past Hernandez’ head.

He didn’t react until a few seconds after the ball just missed hitting him.

“I mean we can laugh about it now,” Cohen said.

“But if that ball was just a few feet more to the left, you could’ve been done for the season.”

“That could have been dangerous,” Hernandez replied.

“Or maybe forever,” Cohen said.

“You could have been back in the incinerator.”

Hernandez said the near miss was because of his eyes, which are seemingly not as sharp as when he played Gold Glove defense at first base for the Mets.

“My eyes are going on me and so are my reflexes,” he said.

While Hernandez nearly got taken out by the ball, the Orioles broadcast booth saw the ball fly into the Mets booth and figured Hernandez got a glove on it.

“Well Keith Hernandez is in there, and he was a pretty good first baseman he probably caught it,” MASN’s Ben McDonald said.

Seeing that Hernandez was okay, fans got a big laugh out of his near-miss and shared their thoughts on social media.
