Thailand faces heavy rain, flash flood risks, and rough seas as the monsoon continues to impact multiple regions, prompting warnings from officials.

The active monsoon trough remains across the North and upper Northeast, while moderate southwesterly winds persist over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected across the upper regions.

Thailand’s Meteorological Department (TMD) cautions that accumulation of rain may lead to flash floods and overflowing waterways, especially in low-lying areas and near foothills. Mariners are advised to avoid stormy areas as waves in the upper Andaman Sea could reach two metres, rising higher during thundershowers. The Gulf and lower Andaman Sea may also see waves of 1 to 2 metres, with similar storm surges possible.

The weather forecast from 6pm yesterday, September 10, to 6pm today, September 11, is as follows:

In the northern region, fairly widespread thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are forecast in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Phrae, Sukhothai, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, and Phitsanulok. Temperatures will range from 23 to 25 °C in the morning to 30 to 34 °C during the day. Winds are variable at 5 to 15 km/h.

For the Northeast, scattered thundershowers are likely in Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani. Morning temperatures will sit between 23 and 25 °C, climbing to 32 to 35 °C by day. Southwesterly winds will blow at 10 to 20 km/h.

In central Thailand, fairly widespread thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are expected in Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Nakhon Pathom. Temperatures will range from 23 to 25 °C to a daytime high of 32 to 35 °C, with southwesterly winds of 10 to 20 km/h.

In the eastern region, scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are forecast in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Temperatures will range from 23 to 27 °C in the morning to 31 to 35 °C during the day. Southwesterly winds of 15 to 35 km/h will bring coastal waves of 1 to 2 metres, exceeding 2 metres in storms.

Winds will blow at 15 to 35 km/h with waves up to 1 metre, rising to 1 to 2 metres offshore and higher in storms.

On the west coast, scattered thundershowers are expected in Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, and Krabi. Morning temperatures will sit at 23 to 26 °C, increasing to 31 to 34 °C in the afternoon.
