More scattered storms ahead; Big heat and humidity this weekend

Areas of showers and thunderstorms continue to move across KELOLAND this morning. One thunderstorm near Huron has been producing locally heavy rain as of 7am.

Pockets of strong winds blew through southwest and southcentral SD last night with wind gusts of 55-70 mph. Heavy rain fell with other storms near the Webster area.

The map below shows the 24 rain totals as of 7am this morning.

Flood warning were issued overnight for the Webster area. Local rainfall totals of 2-4″ fell with slow-moving storms in that area.

A warm and humid afternoon is ahead for Sioux Falls with highs in the mid to upper 80s.

Any storms for tonight look to be widely scattered, with the majority of the severe weather staying in eastern ND.

Today looks to be the hottest day in central SD with highs near 100. Again, we can’t rule out a few widely scattered storms tonight in central or northeastern KELOLAND, but most areas should stay dry. More heat and humidity is expected tomorrow, followed by new storms again in central KELOLAND. The cycle could repeat again Saturday night into Sunday. The storm chances should increase farther south into Sunday or Sunday night.

Here are the details of the forecast.
