More scattered storms later today; Hot late this week

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – More thunderstorms are in the forecast today in KELOLAND, with severe weather again possible with the strongest storms. An enhanced risk of severe weather has been posted for much of central and southern MN.

Large hail over 2″ in diameter, damaging winds of 70mph, and isolated tornadoes are all possible. The biggest question is whether we break the cap and how many storms develop after 4pm.

Severe storms blew through western and northern KELOLAND overnight. You can see the radar loop below.

Rain totals are highly variable due to the scattered nature of the storms the past 24 hours.

Take a look at Futurecast in the video below. We’ll be watch this cold front during the late afternoon. Keep an eye on thunderstorms that develop in the southeast. We think additional storms will develop in western SD later this evening and some of those may also move east tonight. While the rain remains scattered in nature, another batch is possible in southern KELOLAND Tuesday night into Wednesday. Rain chances look lower by Thursday as heat and humidity surge toward the weekend.

Here are the details of the forecast.
