Good morning KELOLAND! We are tracking showers and thunderstorms this morning in western and northwestern SD. You can see the rain moving into Rapid City from our LIVE Cam on Skyline Drive.
The weather picture has been much different at Lake Madison, where folks have seen a beautiful sunrise.

You can see the showers and thunderstorms in western SD on the radar loop below.
Some of these storms have the potential to turn strong to severe this afternoon and evening. Large hail and damaging wind gusts are the main threats, but tornadoes can’t be ruled out. That’s especially true over the enhanced risk zone shown on the map below.

Here’s a closer look at Futurecast. The morning showers and thunderstorms will continue to move east this afternoon, with more robust storms likely during the peak heating of the day. We expect scattered storms to move toward Sioux Falls after 5pm, with locally large hail and damaging winds possible. We also expect storms to build southwest into northern Nebraska. Most of the storms will exit the region by late evening, with a quieter weather day tomorrow. Expect more heat to build by Wednesday in central and western SD.
In the short-term forecast, expect mid 80s in Sioux Falls through the afternoon.

Here are the details of the forecast.
