Nate Bargatze’s controversial rule for Emmy winner speeches divides opinion as fans slam it as ‘rude’

NATE Bargatze’s controversial and “distasteful” rule at last night’s Emmy Awards 2025 has divided opinion – as fans slam it as “rude”.

The comedian, 46, announced at the beginning of the ceremony that he would donate $100,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of America.

Nate was described as ‘f****** evil’ and ‘weird’ for taking money out of the charity pot[/caption]

But he shocked viewers when he announced that he would deduct $1,000 for each second a speech ran over the strict 45-second limit.

As Emmy winners took to the stage to deliver their speeches, the on-screen tally ticked down, leaving them very distracted at this once-in-a-lifetime moment.

Hannah Einbinder, who won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, shared a pro-Palestine message during her speech.

But the actress became aware that her speech was running over and quickly said: “Oh, I’ll pay the difference, sorry.”

While the director of Adolescence apologized before he thanked his late relatives for being his inspiration.

But some viewers were appalled that stars, who should have been able to cherish that moment, were forced to rush their speeches.

One wrote: “The whole dwindling donation thing for winner speeches going over is gross and stupid. I watch for the speeches, not this bulls***.”

A second posted: “I really like Nate Bargatze, but this Boys and Girls gimmick is stupid and you can see it’s annoying the winners.”

A third said: “‘Nate Bargatze coming on every five minutes just to be like ‘All right, well… hm… the money is down womp hmmmm well all right?’ #emmys.”

“It is beyond tacky and vile. Whoever thought of this should be put in awards show jail to never touch one again,” a fourth said.

This person echoed: “This whole taking money away from charity for going over in speeches is so weird and distasteful even if it’s fake and supposed to be a joke.”

“The Emmys penalizing WINNERS for actually talking in your speech for WINNING AN EMMY by taking away ACTUAL MONEY from a donation to BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF AMERICA is so f****** evil. oh you want to use your platform on national tv to do good??? damn you must HATE CHILDREN,” this person fumed.

Another added: “The boys and girls club donation amount flashing on screen getting lower in real time as someone gives their speech for winning a once in a lifetime award actually already feels kind of evil.”

Meanwhile, The Big Bang Theory producer Bill Prady, took to social media to slam Nate for his “cringe” segment.

He wrote on his X platform: “The Boys and Girls Club bit on the Emmys is just awful and uncomfortable and they should bail on it.

“Showing a tote board ticking down while people thank the people who helped them is just cringe.”

Last night, Netflix’s Adolescence triumphed after scooping EIGHT Emmy Awards.

Actor Owen Cooper, 15, nabbed the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie – becoming the youngest ever male actor to win an Emmy.

In addition to Owen’s award, they also won for Outstanding Limited Series, Stephen Graham for Lead Actor, Erin Doherty for Lead Actress, Philip Barantini for Outstanding Directing, and both Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne for Outstanding Writing.

While the Netflix series scored big, The White Lotus, which was heavily favored to be the biggest winner of the night, was completely snubbed.

The Mike White-led show did not win any of the nominations for the 77th annual Primetime Emmys.

CUT SHORT

Hannah Einbinder’s live speech after winning her first Emmy was abruptly cut off after she made an expletive-ridden message.

Hannah, 30, won her first Emmy award for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for her role as Ava on the HBO series, Hacks.

She began her speech by thanking her family and colleagues who helped her get onto the Emmys stage for her first big win.

At the end of her speech, Hannah ended with a bang – letting out some curse words that CBS was forced to bleep out.

“Go Birds, f**k ICE and free Palestine,” Hannah proudly proclaimed.

While “Go Birds,” a nod to her love for the Philadelphia Eagles, and “Free Palestine” were heard by the at-home viewers, the live feed was abruptly cut in the middle when she exclaimed “f**k ICE.”

Before she was cut off, the first-time winner thanked Hacks creators Jen Statsky, Lucia Aniello, and Paul W. Downs, who also co-stars on the HBO Max show alongside Hannah.

“Thank you for changing my life in every conceivable way, but not just by giving me a great gig, but by being my friends and being my family,” she said as she grew more emotional.

She then had to hold back tears as she praised her costar, Jean Smart, who Hannah boasted is “like the sun, and I just get to stand in her warmth.”
