Peacock will debut a brand-new package of NBA games for basketball fans in the 2025-26 season.
However, the NBC-owned platform has significantly hiked its prices.
Peacock is set to raise the price of its ad-supported plan by close to 40 percent, beginning July 23, per Vulture.
The new price of Peacock’s ad tier will be $10.99 per month, up from the current price of $7.99 per month, the report added.
The price bump comes just one year after Peacock increased the price of its ad-supported tier by $2 per month.
The tier is currently $7.99 per month after previously being $5.99.
The ad-free tier will be increased from $13.99 per month to $16.99 per month.
NBA fans were in fits of rage over the development on social media.
“I’ll be cancelling soon. Over it,” one wrote.
“And yet the NBA expects people to sign up?” another asked.
“What a joke,” a third said.
“This is uncalled for,” a fourth added.
The monthly cost increase is due to live sports.
NBC will be paying over $2 million per year for its new NBA package.
The package will feature weekly Peacock-exclusive games in the sport.
There will also be exclusive broadcasts for Big Ten football and basketball, an NFL game each season, the Olympics, and other sports events.
One year ago, Peacock had the reputation of being one of the most affordable streaming services on the market.
But the platform has followed the trend of competitors Apple TV+, Hulu, Netflix, Disney+, and others to increasing prices in recent years.
